Through various class activities, excursions, and cultural visits students were exposed to diverse and multi-regional art practices that broadened their perspectives and increased their understanding not only in the field of print media but in the larger contemporary visual culture. Classes included field trips to local museums and galleries, hands-on workshops at a traditional paper mill (washi) in Tokyo, and interactions with local visiting artists, master printmakers and other Japanese students. This method deeply influenced some late 19th-century Post-Impressionist artists, such as Van Gogh, Toulouse Lautrec, Edgar Degas and Edouard Manet.Īt Tokyo National University of the Arts, students studied the treasured historical skills and tools of Moku Hanga with greater understanding and appreciation. While in the Western tradition, oil-based ink is applied with a roller and printed onto the papers surface, often with the help of a press, in the Japanese tradition water-based ink is applied with a brush and, while being printed by hand, is pressed deeply into the absorbent Japanese paper. While, in practice, the two "tower" AirPort Extremes I had been using prior to switching to eero last year worked a lot like the eeros do in terms of handing off wireless clients seamlessly between the access points, the wireless bridge performance of the AirPort Extremes was far, far inferior to the performance of the eeros.Īs an example, if my iPhone 7 was connected to my wirelessly bridged AirPort Extreme, about the fastest I'd see was 35-45 Mbps up and down. ![]() With the eeros wirelessly bridged, I typically see anywhere from 90-300 Mbps up and down depending on where I am in my home. I have a gigabit fiber connection and routinely get 850-900 Mbps up and down on my equipment that is hard wired directly to the main access point. I don't have ethernet running throughout my home, though, so my best option right now is to do a wireless bridge setup between the access points. The public key is called this because it's not a secret! You may show it to literally anyone, although there's no good reason to bruit it about.Īlong with this public key, whatever it is, there's a paired private key, which you should keep secret (guard it carefully, like a password). If we look at public-key cryptography, we see that it works by having you (or your Git software, or in this particular case, the ssh program-Git literally runs ssh here as Git does not contain the ssh code itself) provide to the server a public key: a long, random-looking string of letters and digits and perhaps other characters that represent some kind of cryptographic key. The way the big Git servers do this is by cheating. Since you're going to claim to be this git pseudo-user, not whoever you really are, the host is going to need to figure out who you really are in some other way. There are a bunch of technical reasons for this, but they all boil down to "it was easier that way, and now it's the convention". That is, they are going to authenticate you not as yourself but rather as the git pseudo-user. ![]() The ssh:// part (if using this form) and the at-sign and colon (if using this form) are literal characters that will appear in the URL.Īll the big Git servers require that you supply the user part as the literal string git. When you use ssh to authenticate, there's a user name involved, and it's right there in the URL: ssh:// host/ path or host: path. Using ssh authentication with Git and big hosting sites ![]() It's also not what the original question is about, so that's all we'll say about it here. This is highly configurable, and has a lot of system dependencies. It does so only for https authentication. Your Git software does not do any of the authentication on its own, but it can use a credential helper. The ssh system uses public-key cryptography there is no password involved here, at least at this point. To use ssh authentication with Git, use a URL that begins with ssh:// or that has the form host: path, e.g., :my/repo.git. The ssh authentication is much more uniform, perhaps because there are fewer ssh implementations and most trace their history back to a common starting point. To use this method with Git, use a URL that begins with These take the form host/path/passed/to/host (although you can shove the password / token in here, or leave out the user part, it's usually simplest to include the user and leave out the password, so that only the password has to be managed via some credential system). The user name here is your identity, and the password-or-token is your proof of identity (so guard it carefully!). This pair authenticates you as you to the hosting site. One then directs one's Git to supply a user name and the token-as-the-password. ![]() One has the web site generate the token (using, usually, a password, and perhaps some second factor for two-factor authentication). The difference between a token and a password is, essentially, that the token is a structured password, with the (hidden-from-the-user) structure containing extra information. However, both Bitbucket and GitHub now use token-based authentication rather than password-based. The https authentication has the most variability as there are many https implementations and each one has its own identity and authorization techniques, so it is the one about which we can say the least.
![]() Makes a compelling case that modern TV news - i.e. "Media history geeks, Christmas is about to come early. It might have been both the most entertaining film of this year’s Sundance." It rivetingly retraces how one heated rivalry sparked an entire culture of punditry." The directors avoid picking sides and instead enjoy the show." "It's a scream and should wind up as one of the breakout documentary sensations of 2015." Matthew Odam, Austin American-Statesman But Graham makes it feel recent by showing that this is the time when personality and politics became inextricably intertwined, and hinting towards the limits of charisma and ego when it comes to actually governing a country."Best of Enemies” captivates with its detail and historical footage." In a way, it's an unimaginably different time, one where TV broadcasts were a communal event, handed down to a public whose main way of responding to what they saw was by simply switching on or off (the kind of blunt measure today's Twitter-obsessed decision-makers must dream of). Jeremy Herrin's final production as artistic director of Headlong is bright, clear and well-served by Bunny Christie's design, which beautifully echoes the rounded edges of the '60s telly screens which relayed all this drama to an audience at home. Broadly drawn mini-portraits of familiar late ’60s luminaries like Andy Warhol and Aretha Franklin pop up, and historical footage flashes across the stage's many screens. But that's perhaps because 'Best of Enemies' is trying to do so much, trying to make this distant era sing for a British audience. ![]() 'Best of Enemies' explores this side of Buckley's story without really offering much insight into his racist mindset, or into the effect his interactions with Baldwin might have had on him. Still, casting a Black actor in the role of a white conservative does muffle the impact of Buckley's debates with visionary Black American writer James Baldwin: famously, the two argued across America's deep racial divides in a landmark 1965 University of Cambridge debate, with Buckley advocating for segregation while Baldwin offered a powerful indictment of white America. Perhaps he's a bit of an unlikely piece of casting here but he's utterly compelling: feline and aloof to start with, but shedding his calm like stray cat hairs once Buckley starts to get the better of him.ĭavid Harewood returns from the Young Vic run as Buckley, making an intriguing adversary: with his moneyed drawl, he struggles to be the man of the people he longs to be seen as, and Harewood captures the odd mannerisms of this awkward political performer, licking his lips with lizard-like nervousness. Hollywood actor Zachary Quinto, best known for sci-fi roles, steps into the role for this West End transfer. It's pretty inevitable that a theatre audience would end up siding with the latter, and that's especially easy here: Graham digs into all of Vidal's contradictions, exploring his half-hidden, half-open gay identity, and the way his need to be taken seriously as an intellectual fights with his urge to enthrall the public with rhetorical flourishes, pre-prepared catty asides, or the salacious sexual freedoms of his novel ‘Myra Breckinridge’. Now, it's conservatives versus liberals, with Buckley campaigning for a New Right that mobilises the silent majority, while Vidal attempts to ride the wave of student protest and social liberalism. Once, it was Republicans versus Democrats. These two men typify the emerging face of American politics. They butt heads like elk, battling for control of the unknowable snowy wilderness that is the political conscience of the average American viewer. ![]() ![]() The stars? William F Buckley Jr and Gore Vidal, two American political commentators and public intellectuals who loathe each other in an enormously entertaining way, and are mercilessly lined up by the ABC telly executives who've spotted their potential to boost its flagging ratings. And 'Best of Enemies' typifies that feeling, alighting on the relatively niche subject of telly debates in the run-up to the US 1968 Presidential election, and making it completely lucid and vital. The great thing about a James Graham play is that you go in with only the haziest ideas about the twentieth-century political moment he's picked as his subject, but come out two-and-a-bit hours later buzzing with its personalities and conflicts and stories. ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm not as fit as I could be and have given a lot of thought to the pop up problem, I only have trouble when the waves are under 2ft. ![]() Now I'm riding a Simon 6'4" x 20 1/2" x 2 5/8" 35.76 litre and loving life, although I still spend the first half of the wave getting organized. Until recently was struggling on a 25 litre Merrick, the old pop up was getting shaky. So my question to the experienced shapers and surfers out there is at what size does a modern short board stop riding and feeling like a short board? ![]() My current go to board for fun waves is 5’10 x 20 1/8”, and 6’2” x19.5” for bigger waves but I often wonder if I might surf better or at least as well on a longer board. My quiver ranges from 5’3” to 9’5” and I like 32 litres or more to have fun in normal waves. I theorise that we only need a surfboard that performs well enough to allow us to push our limits, and anything more high performance is probably just making things harder. More are starting to ride quads as they seem to plane quicker too. They still have great technique, but not the POW. Age steals our paddling and explosive strength and I’ve noticed that by the time surfers are in there mid 50’s, those that had it, have pretty much lost that magic pop and explosive power that differentiates them from the rest. I’m 54, 80kgs and arguably my best surfing days are behind me. I often find myself watching a surfer thinking “you would be better off on a bigger board”. Radical old guys don’t surf like radical young ones! They tend to surf pretty much the same on most waves, and interestingly they don’t actually turn much more or less when riding different boards of similar sizes. I don’t just mean wave count, I mean the whole package. It’s intriguing how in 2 to 4 foot waves you can have two guys over 50 of similar ability, one on the latest shortboard, and one on a mini-mal or higher volume fish-style board, and the guy on the mini-mal or fish will often seriously out surf the short boarder. I’m lucky enough to live across the road from the beach and waste a lot of time analysing surfers styles, technique, and how different boards seem to go. But what is an optimal short board size range for surfers over 50? But how small is small enough, and how big is too big for an all-round shortboard? This normally comes down to ability, weight and wave quality. ![]() ![]() We will show in another post the exact implementation of the TCP client/server, then you can get a more clear picture of the connection handler. The connection identifier works as a handler for sending/receiving data to/from the server. ![]() If the handshake is successful, the TCP user gets the connection identifier. But how the user knows, that connection is done? And the user can use the connection to send data to a remote server? The user gets an indication of the connection setup result from the TCP layer. TCP user indication after three-way handshake :Īt the start, we have mentioned that it is the user who initiates a connection request. The packet includes a sequence number from the server plus one. The client sends a TCP ack packet upon receiving TCP syn ack from the server. The final packet for the connection setup is TCP ack. This way server tells that it is ready to accept the packet with the next sequence number from the client. The ack part has the client sequence number plus one. The syn sequence number is the initial sequence number of the server accepting the connection. Not to mention that this is a single TCP packet with syn and ack bit set to 1. TCP SYN-ACK packet:Īfter receiving the SYN packet, the server sends the syn ack packet to the client. The attacker never completes the connection. It has the initial sequence number of the client along with a few more parameters. The receiver reserves a slot for the new connection and sends back a SYN/ACK packet. TCP message set SYN flag to 1 in the message, so make the TCP message as SYN segment. This is the first packet from the client to the server. The following mentions each message in detail for a three-way handshake. Upon SYN received Sever sends a new syn and an ack for a received SYN to the client, then the client sends the ACK to the server for a received SYN from the server. Because TCP delivers messages to the user in sequence. The sequence number is to maintain the sequencing of messages. The protocol layer works as a client and sends the TCP-SYN segment with an initial sequence number. The user of HTTP issues a connect request to the TCP layer.
